On May 10th 2014 Fresno’s top 8th grade running back prospect Malik Lee Jr., suffered a traumatic injury that would end his 2014 youth football season. Lee suffered a rare fracture to his pelvis while participating in a spring track meet. Lee was devastated when he heard the news and could not believe that he would miss his last year of Middle School football.
Although, his entire family was disappointed his father Malik Lee Sr., a devoted Christian took the lead and prayed over his son. The Lee family took a leap of faith and began the long road to rehab. As Malik Lee Jr. worked countless hours to rehabilitate his injury the football season began. Never giving up hope Malik Lee Jr. believed that work ethic and faith in God would get him back on the field.
Miraculously in September Malik Lee Jr. took an X-ray and was given a clean bill of health. It was like the injury had never happened. The doctor was stunned as they released Lee to participate in the 2014 football season.
Motivated and determined as ever to get back on the field, Malik Lee joined his Gaston Middle School team and took his role as the fearless leader. Lee played in 8 games and rushed for 1485 yards on 47 carries. Lee averaged 185 yards a game, 31.5 yards a carry, 21 touchdowns and led his team to a Fresno Unified League Championship. If you think that these stats are Malik Lee Jr’s. most impressive stats, you’re mistaken. Lee posted 4.0 GPA in the classroom and landed on his school’s honor roll.
